Higher Education

Applying to university can be confusing and overwhelming — especially if you're navigating it for the first time or dealing with immigration-related challenges. EduChange is here to guide young refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants through the entire process.

We offer individual advice and support on:

  • Choosing the right university course

  • Understanding how to apply

  • Clarifying previous qualifications and what they mean in the UK

  • Securing accommodation

  • Exploring funding options and eligibility

  • Understanding how your immigration status may affect access to higher education

  • Meeting English language requirements

  • Considering alternatives to university, if that’s a better fit

  • Getting advice on postgraduate study

  • Learning how to not just survive, but thrive at university

  • Career guidance related to your studies

Whether you're at the beginning of your university journey or exploring options after your first degree, we're here to help.

Educational Mentoring

Our educational mentoring scheme offers weekly one-to-one support for young people who need help with their studies.

Mentoring sessions focus on:

  • Practising English

  • Getting support with school or college work

You’ll meet with a trained mentor once a week in a local library for a one-hour session. You can bring your homework or revision tasks, and your mentor will help you understand and complete the work. They will also support you in improving your English skills through conversation and practice.

How to Get a Mentor

If you’d like a mentor, ask your teacher, social worker, or support worker to contact the EduChange Mentoring Team on your behalf.

Our mentors are here to help you feel more confident in your studies and to make sure you don’t fall behind.

Addressing Barriers to Education

Refugee and migrant children and young people often face significant barriers to accessing education. These may include language difficulties, unfamiliarity with the British education system, and complex social, economic, or legal challenges.

At EduChange, we are committed to ensuring that every young person from a refugee, immigrant, or marginalised background has the opportunity to access the education they deserve — from school, to college, university and beyond. We work to remove these barriers by offering tailored advice, mentoring, and practical support at every stage of the educational journey.

Further Education

Young people from refugee, asylum-seeking, or migrant backgrounds often face difficulties in accessing further education due to lack of information, unclear eligibility, and legal or financial obstacles.

At EduChange, we provide clear and practical advice to help you navigate the college system in the UK. Our support includes:

  • Choosing the right college course

  • Understanding how to enrol

  • What documents and qualifications are required

  • Exploring funding options and financial support

  • Understanding how your immigration status affects access to education

  • Looking at alternative education pathways if college isn’t the right fit

  • Basic career guidance linked to further education choices

Our aim is to ensure that no young person is left behind simply because they are new to the system or unsure where to start.
